Friday Fall Leaf Report - October 19th

Tree leaves aren't the only stars of the fall season. Sunrises and sunsets are also brilliant. Local photographer and fly-fishing guide, Matt Evans with The Catawba Angler, shared this shot from a recent outing on Lake James.

The two Lake James State Parks are open, the beach is closed, but the park and hiking/biking trails are open.  They take you through the woods and around the lake opening to beautiful views and offering a peaceful, quiet experience.

On to the leaves!  Yes, they ARE beginning to turn.  Grandfather Mountain State Park is now showing close to 50% in leaf colors.  The cool nights and warm days are working hard to convert greens to yellow, orange, and red.  Remember, the higher elevations will have the first colors.  The lower elevations may take another 7-10 days.

Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway between Linville Falls and Little Switzerland there are more Sycamore and Dogwood reds, mixed in with Elm, Oak, Poplar and strong yellows peaking through.  The distance views are beautiful!

If you're having trouble finding reservations, consider booking weeknights.  There are fewer people on the trails, in the hotels, and renting through AirBnB/VRBO.  We hope to see you soon!
