Three fun events, all in one day! This year's N.C. Gold Festival takes place on the grounds of Mountain Gateway Museum in downtown Old Fort, beginning with the Rugged Nugget 5k at 9:00 am, followed by a day of fun and history! Organizers of the Official North Carolina Gold Festival are pleased to announce the appearance of Cledus T. Judd as the event headliner. Mr. Judd has been out of the limelight by choice but has decided to embrace the public again with his comedic talent. Fans may remember his video “I Love NASCAR” with Toby Keith.
With over 30 arts, crafts and food vendors, and gold panning, the NC Gold Festival will keep you busy. Representatives from the infamous Reed Gold Mine will be on hand, along with other NC Gold Trail members Historic Gold Hill and the Bechtler Museum. Inside Mountain Gateway Museum, you'll find a special Bechtler coin exhibit, on loan from the NC State Museum of History. Admission is FREE! To register for the Rugged Nugget 5k, email [email protected] Proceeds benefit the Friends of Mountain Gateway Museum.
Learn more about our gold history, by visiting the county's only authentic, former commercial gold mine at Lucky Strike Gold and Gem Mine. Onsite, you'll find gold vendors, gold panning and other special events. The Lucky Strike Gold and Gem Mine is located at 251 Lucky Strike Drive, in Marion.
In downtown Marion, between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm, celebrate a favorite food of mountain families, liver mush. Members of the Hunter's Liver Mush family will be cooking and serving FREE liver mush sandwiches! There will be a pig calling contest, liver mush eating contest, arts/crafts vendors, music and more.
