Winter In The Blue Ridge

You may believe a Blue Ridge winter is boring, with little outdoor fun. If this is you, you are wrong!  Typically, we experience mild temperatures in January and February.  The majority of our area is part of a regional thermal belt.  Today is January 2nd and the high temperature is forecast at 58 degrees.

Hiking/waterfall trails, state parks, and mountain bike trails are easily accessed.  Many offer amazing views, no leaves on the trees!

It's also a fun time to experience our small towns.  Downtown Marion's historic Main Street area is filled with locally owned shops, art, restaurants, tap rooms, a brewery and a music hall.  Check out our Facebook page for details.

The Town of Old Fort is much smaller, easy to walk, and includes a state museum property at Mountain Gateway Museum.  Stop by the Blue Ridge Traveler's Visitor Center, shop with local merchants, and the Arrowhead Gallery & Studios is the perfect place to pick up unique gifts or something special for yourself.  They also offer one day art and craft classes.  Find them on Facebook or call them at 828-668-1100.
